Original hand-pulled "Fourth of July" mezzotint limited edition print on heavy paper created in 1985 by German artist G. H. Rothe. Version number 10/150 present in lower left title in the middle and artist’s pencil signature in lower right along with GHR Rothe Studio mark.

Print is unframed and in very good condition with clean surface and bright colors. Paper toning discoloration present to edges mostly to the right side.

Mezzotint is large and measures approx. WxH - 42 1/4 x 30 inches. Image art measures approx. WxH - 35 x 23 ½ inches.

G.H. Rothe (1935 - 2007) was renowned as master of the mezzotint. She was born in 1935 in Beuthen Germany (ceded to Poland in 1945) and her studies in art history human anatomy goldsmithing and extensive drawing culminated in her discovery of the mezzotint technique. Mezzotint is a print made from an engraved copper or steel plate on which the surface has been partially roughened for shading and partially scraped smooth giving light areas. Depending on it’s size completion of such a plate takes weeks and most often months to and surface of the relatively soft copperplate permits only a certain number of print proceedings and consequently each edition remains limited to 150-200 prints.
